Frederick Winkler Killed in La Pine, OR, 18-wheeler Accident

La Pine, OR -- June 5, 2017, Frederick Holmes Winkler was killed after an accident where his pickup and an 18-wheeler collided into each other.

The Oregon State Police Department was called out to the scene of the accident at approximately 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of The Dallas-California Highway and Burgess Road.

Initial details released by authorities indicate that 69-year-old Winkler was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup along the northbound lanes of the highway. In a chain of events not entirely clear, the pickup crossed paths with an oncoming 18-wheeler. This ended in a head-on collision which caused the two vehicles to catch fire.

Winkler was unable to escape the wreckage, and he reportedly died at the scene. The truck driver's condition was not given.

At this time, the factors surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
