Maicol Encarnacion Garcia Killed in Mamaroneck, NY, Accident

Mamaroneck, NY -- June 5, 2017, Maicol Encarnacion Garcia was killed due to an accident where he was hit by a tractor-trailer that fled the scene.

Local authorities were called out to the scene of the accident at around 12:45 a.m. at the Mamaroneck Avenue exit of I-95.

According to preliminary investigations, 20-year-old Garcia was on the side of the highway outside of his VW Tiguan, which had experienced a flat tire. As he was changing the tire, a passing tractor-trailer failed to give enough space and struck Garcia on the side of the road. The truck continued on and left the scene.

Garcia was critically injured in the accident, and it would appear he died at the scene.

At this time, no additional details are available.

Map of the Area

It's always so tragic to see an accident like this, especially considering the driver involved fled the scene. Now with an 18-wheeler, it's possible the collision was not noticeable to the driver, who simply didn't know the incident happened at all. That being said, the fact the driver made contact with Mr. Garcia at all means that something definitely went wrong here.

The best thing that can be done is for this accident to gain as much visibility as possible. There are times where a hit-and-run accident finds closure after someone reads a news article and connects the dots when they know which vehicle was involved. Sometimes it's a repair shop who recently serviced the damaged vehicle, sometimes it's a co-worker who knows the incident occurred, and sometimes the driver themselves will come forward and admit their involvement.

Whatever the case may be, the best way to help those affected by this tragic incident is to assist police in trying to locate the missing driver. Once that is done, a more thorough investigation can be conducted to determine whether or not someone will be held accountable for the accident.
