Nine Hurt in Bus Accident on Highway 161 in Mascoutah, IL

Mascoutah, IL -- A head-on crash involving a school bus and a box truck left injured nine people, eight of which were children, Tuesday, May 30, 2017.

Representatives with State Police claim the incident took place on Highway 161 around 8 a.m. It appears the an altercation--described as a fight--broke out on the bus, leaving the driver distracted. The bus then crossed the center line, crashing into a box truck in the opposing lane.

The 47-year-old male driver of the truck was left with serious injuries.

Eight students on the bus were injured in the crash. The report claims the nature of their injuries was not serious.

The investigation is currently open.
