2 Women Killed in Sandwich, MA, Pedestrian Accident on 6A

Sandwich, MA -- May 22, 2017, two elderly women were killed due to an accident where they were struck by a vehicle while crossing a crosswalk.

Officials from the Sandwich Police Department reported that the accident took place along Route 6A just outside Merchant Square. The emergency call came in around 1:45 p.m.

According to police investigators, the two women, said to be 88 years old and 70 years old, were attempting to cross Route 6A on foot, reportedly using a crosswalk. As they crossed a vehicle driven by a 54-year-old man failed to see the women in time and crashed into them.

Both women suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Police did not say if any charges or citations were filed after the accident. It's unclear who had the light at the time.

Investigations are ongoing.
