Thomas Frederick Jones III Killed in Henderson Co., NC, Accident

Henderson County, NC -- May 22, 2017, Thomas Frederick Jones III was killed as the result of an accident where his semi-trailer crashed off-road.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called out to the accident scene at the I-26 overpass of Macedonia Road. It's unclear exactly when the accident happened, but the wreckage was found in the early morning hours of Monday.

According to police officials, 62-year-old Jones was driving an Alpha and Omega Trucking semi-trailer along the westbound lanes of the interstate. As he did so, the 18-wheeler somehow drifted off traffic lanes. It ran in-between the two lanes of the overpass and crashed into Macedonia Road below.

By the time emergency personnel arrived, Jones had succumbed to fatal injuries. It would appear no other motorists were involved.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are still ongoing.
