Annie Flowers Killed, 1 Injured in Montgomery Co., AL, Accident

Montgomery County, AL -- May 22, 2017, Annie Flowers was killed and another was injured due to an accident where a car and an 18-wheeler crashed.

Alabama State Police investigators have yet to release specifics on what might have caused the accident. They say that it took place at around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of US Highway 331 and Hobbie Road.

66-year-old Flowers was driving a 2007 Hummer through the intersection just as a 2008 Kenworth semi-trailer was doing the same. It's unclear how exactly the crash happened, but the two vehicles collided. Flowers's car ended up off-road with severe damage while the 18-wheeler overturned onto its side.

Flowers was said to have died at the scene while the truck driver was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

No charges or citations were reported, and investigations are ongoing.

Map of the Area

The details released by police are still vague at this time, and I can't help but be concerned that those affected by this tragic incident are receiving equally sparse information. Police reports are often lacking information during preliminary investigations due to the fact that they don't want to release incomplete information. That being said, it can sometimes be indicative--especially with a commercial vehicle accident--of the fact that the accident is simply too complex for the police to handle.

Now this isn't a slight at police in any way. Many officers are very experienced and good at their jobs. The reality is that most departments just aren't equipped with the tools or experience necessary to handling such complex accidents. Commercial vehicles are intricate machines with a lot of parts, and the destruction of a serious accident can make things exponentially more difficult to examine without the right tools.

But I don't want people to think I'm saying it's impossible to find out what happened in accidents like this. Those who seek the aid of an experienced private investigator can gain an ally who is well equipped to handle these sorts of accidents. I've always advocated for the use of private investigators for the very reason that they're effective at examining any and all possible factors surrounding an accident so that victims and their families can have all of the facts at their disposal.
