One Injured in Hawkins, TX, School Bus Accident on US 80

Hawkins, TX -- May 18, 2017, one person sustained injuries as the result of an accident in which a bus and a pickup collided.

According to details released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident took place at around 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of US Highway 80 and FM 2869.

Investigators reported that a Hawkins ISD school bus was transporting students after school. The bus came to a stop to let children off on the side of the highway. An oncoming pickup reportedly failed to adhere to the bus's stop signal and ran into the back of the bus.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the pickup was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

It's unclear at this time if any extenuating circumstances contributed to the crash. No further details were released.
