One Soldier Killed, One Hurt in Accident on Daniel Inouye Highway in North Kona, HI

North Kona, HI -- A crash involving a military vehicle claimed the life of a soldier and left one injured in the area of North Kona, HI Sunday, May 14, 2017.

According to the report, the soldiers were hauling heavy equipment when for unknown reasons the vehicle lost control. It appears the vehicle was attempting a left turn onto Māmalahoa Highway from Daniel Inouye Highway when it crashed into a guardrail, flipping the truck into a culvert.

The incident led to the deaths of a 36-year-old and a 20-year-old. The 20-year-old was apparently driving the vehicle when the incident happened.

The official investigation into the incident is ongoing and may provide more information as it concludes.
