Girl Killed in Canadian, TX, Train Accident off W Purcell Avenue

Canadian, TX -- May 13, 2017, a teenage girl was fatally injured due to an accident in which she was struck by a train while walking.

Authorities from the Hemphill County Sheriff's Department released details concerning the fatal incident. They say it happened at around 5:00 p.m. just south of West Purcell Avenue.

Police reported that the 13-year-old girl was walking along the tracks just off the roadway as a train was approaching. Somehow, she did not avoid the train in time, and the train could not stop before striking the teenager.

Officials say that the girl died at the scene before she could be treated. It's unclear if any particular factors contributed to the accident.
