Allison Monroe Killed, Katherine Monroe, Child Injured in Hedley, TX, Accident

Hedley, TX -- May 13, 2017, Allison Monroe was killed, Katherine Monroe and a child were injured, following a rear-end accident on the highway.

Authorities from the Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the accident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. along eastbound US Highway 287.

Preliminary reports indicate that 43-year-old Katherine Monroe was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier with 12-year-old Allison Monroe and a 10-year-old girl riding as passengers. As the Chevy slowed down to make a left turn, the vehicle was struck from behind by a Jeep Renegade. The collision caused the Jeep to catch fire.

Emergency service officials rushed out to the scene. By the time they arrived, Allison had succumbed to fatal injuries. Katherine and the other child were both transported to nearby hospitals in critical condition. The driver of the Jeep, Erika Roberts, was not hurt.

At this time, police have not reported what factors contributed to the crash. No charges or citations have been reported at this time.

Investigations are ongoing.

I can only speculate about what ultimately caused this accident until further investigations are conducted. Though there are many possibilities, the common causes of rear-end accidents are speeding, inattentive driving, or following too closely. As such, most people assume these kinds of accidents mean that the victims are automatically going to be compensated for their pains and losses. The simple fact of the matter is that no matter what the accident entails, even one as tragic as this one, the at-fault driver's insurance company is still going to do everything they can to pay the victims less than they deserve.

There's no way to put a price on such a tragic loss, but the job of insurance companies is to do just that. While some would see an accident like this and assume the victims are going to get the full amount of compensation, they'll most likely find the insurance company making whatever excuses they can to undercut the victims and give them less than they deserve.
