Kirk Stewart Killed in Wapato, WA, Pedestrian Accident

Wapato, WA -- May 5, 2017, Kirk Stewart suffered fatal injuries following an accident in which he was struck by an 18-wheeler while walking.

According to reports released by the Washington State Police, the fatal incident happened just before 10:00 p.m. between the towns of Parker and Wapato.

Preliminary information indicates that 59-year-old Stewart was walking along the southbound lanes of US Highway 97. As he did so, reports claim he attempted to cross traffic lanes. In doing so, he entered the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler which failed to avoid him. The truck collided into the pedestrian in the roadway.

Emergency medical response teams pronounced Steward deceased at the scene. Police did not report any charges or citations stemming from the accident.

Investigations are ongoing.
