Mother, Child Injured in Amarillo, TX, Rollover Accident on US 87

Amarillo, TX -- May 7, 2017, a mother and her child were injured following an accident where their vehicle was struck and then overturned off of US 87.

Authorities from the Amarillo Police Department responded to the accident scene at around 3:15 p.m. near the intersection of Us Highway 87 and 24th Avenue.

According to police officials, a Chevy sedan in the left lane of the highway, for reasons unclear, swerved across traffic toward the right lane of travel. This resulted int he Chevy hitting the side of a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 28-year-old woman.

This collision caused the Jeep to lose control and run off the side of the highway. As a result, the vehicle overturned, ejecting both the woman and her 4-year-old son.

Emergency services came to the scene and transported both victims to a nearby hospital. No one from the Chevrolet was injured.

Police did not report any charges or citations resulting from the accident. Investigations are ongoing.
