1 Killed, 1 Injured in Lufkin, TX, Single-Vehicle Accident on Gobbler’s Knob

Lufkin, TX -- May 5, 2017, one person was killed and another was injured due to an accident in which their vehicle ran off the side of Gobbler's Knob.

Officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the accident scene at around 11:15 a.m. The accident took place along Gobbler's Knob Road close to Cedar Creek.

According to preliminary police reports, two people were in a white car traveling along Gobbler's Knob. For reasons not yet clear, the vehicle lost control and swerved off the side of the road. It ran through a ditch and crashed into a power pole.

Both occupants were critically injured in the accident, and air transport was called in. A woman was taken via helicopter to a nearby hospital in critical condition while a man was taken via ground ambulance. He later died at the hospital.

Police have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to lose control. Investigations continue.
