One Injured, Trucker Charged in Limestone Co., AL, Accident on US 72

Limestone County, AL -- May 1, 2017, a driver was charged and his passenger was injured after an accident where their truck rolled over on US 72.

Authorities from the Limestone County Sheriff's Department reported that the incident took place around 2:00 a.m. near the intersection of US Highway 72 and Curtis Lane, west of Athens.

Preliminary details are still sparse at this time. Officials say that an 18-wheeler was traveling along the highway when it somehow lost control and flipped over. The crash was severe enough that a significant portion of the container was ripped off.

Emergency services came to the scene, and the passenger of the truck was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the driver was placed under arrest and taken to jail due to the accident, but they did not say what charges were being filed.

At this time, no additional details have been released.
