Doug Decker Killed in Accident near Quitman, AR

Quitman, AR -- April 30, 2017, Fire Chief Doug Decker lost his life following an accident where he was struck by a vehicle.

According to the report, Chief Decker was on the side of Highway 25 close to Quitman checking the level of the surrounding flood waters. Another vehicle on the highway hydroplaned and lost control, striking Decker on the side of the road.

Police officials say the poor weather conditions played a contributing role in the collision. The report made no mention of other injuries in the crash.

It's unclear at this time exactly what led to the deadly crash.

The official investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The preliminary press release provided no further information regarding the crash.
