2 Injured in St. Tammany Parish, LA, 18-wheeler Accident on Causeway

St. Tammany Parish, LA -- March 8, 2017, two people were injured after an accident where a pickup and an 18-wheeler collided on the Causeway Bridge.

Authorities made their was along the northbound side of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge at around 12:00 p.m. near mile marker 16.

According to police reports, an 18-wheeler had broken down and was stuck in the right lane of the Causeway. After some time, a northbound pickup somehow failed to slow down in time, and it crashed into the back of the 18-wheeler at nearly full speed.

The driver of the pickup was trapped inside of his vehicle as a result of the collision. When rescue teams arrived, he had to be cut out of his vehicle. Afterward, he and the driver of the 18-wheeler were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities did not indicate what factors contributed to the accident. They have not released any additional information at this time.
