Scotty Wayne Newman Killed in Rison, AR, Single-Vehicle Accident

Rison, AR -- March 5, 2017, Scotty Wayne Newman was killed as the result of an accident in which his vehicle crashed off the highway.

Arkansas State Troopers investigated the fatal single-vehicle accident at around 4:40 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 63 and Spring Road, east of town.

Their preliminary findings indicate that 49-year-old Newman was traveling southbound along Highway 63 in a 2009 Toyota. For reasons that are still under investigation, the vehicle somehow lost control and swerved off the side of the highway. It went through the northbound ditch before careening into a tree.

Authorities say that Newman was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment. His injuries eventually proved fatal.

Police have not said what factors contributed to the accident. Their investigations are ongoing.
