Boy Injured in Taunton, MA, Trash Bin Accident off County Street

Taunton, MA -- February 19, 2017, a boy was seriously injured after an accident where nearly hung himself inside a trash bin at an apartment complex.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 12:30 p.m. to an apartment complex near the intersection of County Street and Winslow Drive.

According to initial investigations, the 9-year-old boy was playing by himself in the apartment complex. He reportedly climbed through the side window of a dumpster and attempted to climb out the top.

As he did so, he somehow lost footing and fell, which caused the lid to fall down on top of him. This somehow trapped his head between the lid and the rim of the dumpster. The boy was unable to free himself, and he eventually passed out.

His grandmother found him and called for emergency services. They found the boy unconscious and in critical condition. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident. No additional details are available.
