Samantha Anderson, Angel Nichols Killed in Vanceboro, NC, Accident

Vanceboro, NC -- February 16, 2017, Samantha Anderson and Angel Nichols died, Pamela Tell and Sherri and Edward Nichols were injured after a truck accident.

The North Carolina State Police were called to the two vehicle accident scene at approximately 10:43 a.m. It happened at the intersection of Nelson Road and River Road, west of town.

38-year-old Tello was driving a Toyota along Nelson Road and came to a stop sign. Police state that in turning on River, the Toyota entered the path of a westbound tractor-trailer. As a result, the two vehicles collided.

Riding in the Toyota were 16-year-old Anderson, 4-year-old Angel, 40-year-old Sherri, and Edward Nichols, also 4. Due to the collision, Anderson and Angel suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The other three passengers were taken to Vidant Medical Center. One was taken via helicopter, though it's unclear who. The truck driver, Darwin Aldanagarcia, was not injured.

At this time, it's not entirely clear what caused the accident. Investigations are ongoing.
