2 Killed in Franklin County, AR, Tire Blowout Accident on I-40W

Franklin County, AR -- February 22, 2017, two people were killed as the result of an accident in which their vehicle crashed off-road.

The Arkansas State Police released a report containing preliminary details surrounding the accident. They say it happened around 2:15 p.m. just easy of Mulberry.

According to their investigations, two people were traveling westbound along I-40W at the intersection of Lone Elm Road. Their identities have not been released, and it's unclear what kind of vehicle they were driving.

As they traveled, the front right tire experienced a blowout, causing the vehicle to lose control. The vehicle swerved off the side of the road and crashed.

The collision was severe enough that both occupants died at the scene of the accident. Authorities say notification of kin is still pending.

Police reported no additional details. Investigations are ongoing.
