William Thompkins Hurt in Accident in North Vernon, IN

North Vernon, IN -- A collision between a passenger car and a semi-truck left 77-year-old William Thompkins in the area of North Vernon, IN Monday, February 20, 2017.

The crash happened at State Road 750 & State Road 7 around 10:41 a.m.

It appears the vehicle occupied by the injured victim was headed north on State Road 7 when it collided with a truck at the intersection. Mr. Thompkins' vehicle was allegedly smashed beneath the 18-wheeler. The report claims both vehicles caught fire. Mr. Thompkins was transported to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital, and was last listed in critical condition.

Authorities were examining the details of the incident in the hopes of determining the cause.

The early media reports provided no further information regarding the incident.
