Aidyn Gonzales Killed, Amanda Gonzales Injured in Corpus Christi, TX, Accident

Corpus Christi, TX -- January 23, 2017, Aidyn Gonzales was killed, Amanda Gonzales injured after an accident where pickup rear-ended their vehicle.

Corpus Christi authorities report that the fatal accident occurred on I-37 near the Highway 77 interchange at around 5:00 p.m.

According to preliminary reports, Amanda, Aidyn's mother, was driving a vehicle westbound on I-37 toward Calallen when the accident occurred. Traffic slowed down due to usually rush hour crowding. As she slowed down, a woman driving a pickup failed to slow down in time and crashed into the back of their vehicle.

Due to the collision, Aidyn and another boy were severely injured. Authorities say that Aidyn passed away at the scene due to his injuries. Amanda suffered critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where reports say she was in a coma immediately following the accident. Her current condition, as well as the condition of the other child, has not been released.

Authorities did not issue any citations or charges following the accident, and they are currently investigating whether or not texting and driving contributed to the crash.
