Man Injured in Asheville, NC, 18-wheeler Accident on Tunnel Road

Asheville, NC -- January 23, 2017, a man was injured as the result of an accident in which an 18-wheeler overturned off of Tunnel Road.

Police and emergency rescue teams responded to the single-vehicle accident scene at around 8:00 a.m. at the tunnel of Tunnel Road.

According to preliminary police reports, a refrigerated 18-wheeler carrying meat was traveling down the roadway. For reasons that aren't clear, the 18-wheeler lost control and left the side of the roadway. As a result, it overturned down the ravine, almost falling to the roadway below.

Following the crash, emergency personnel extricated a man and a woman from the cab of the semi. Reports say the man had non-critical injuries while the woman was not injured.

Authorities have not suggested any factors contributing to the crash. Their investigations are ongoing.
