Joe Zuiches Killed in Accident at Olympic Valley, CA Ski Resort

Squaw Valley, CA -- An incident at a ski resort in Squaw Valley, CA claimed the life of 42-year-old Joe Zuiches Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

The incident took place at the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows resort about 8:35 a.m.

It looks like the victim was working in avalanche control when the incident took place. It is believed Mr. Zuiches was operating an ammonium nitrate explosive device, used to preempt dangerous avalanches, when it went off. The cause of the incident is not clear at this time.

Officials were at the scene examining the details of the deadly incident.

The report, due to the immediacy of the explosion, provided few details at its release.
