Maria Wiegand Killed, Several Injured in Eureka, IL

Eureka, IL --A two-vehicle collision claimed the life of 9-year-old Maria Wiegand and left several hurt in the area of Eureka, IL Wednesday, January 18, 2017.

The collision happened around 4 p.m. at 4-H Road and County Road 1700.

It looks like the two vehicles, a 12-occupant passenger van, and a pickup truck collided. It is unclear within which vehicle she was riding, but police say Maria Wiegand was pinned beneath one of the vehicles. She was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. She succumbed to her injuries Monday, January 23, 2017.

Several people were taken to local hospitals with undisclosed injuries.

The cause of the incident had yet to be determined at the time of the report.

The official investigation is currently underway.
