Man Killed in Corpus Christi, TX, Multi-Vehicle Accident on I-37

Corpus Christi, TX, -- January 23, 2017, one person was killed, others injured, following an accident where a pickup caused a chain reaction crash on I-37.

Corpus Christi Police Department officials report that the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Callicoate Road.

According to preliminary investigations, a line of vehicles had begun to back up on the interstate, and traffic came to a slow-down. Authorities say that a Dodge pickup failed to slow down in time as it approached the slow-moving traffic. As a result, it slammed into the back of a red passenger car, causing a chain reaction with several other vehicles.

Due to the collision, a rear-seat passenger in the red car suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities say there were other injuries, but they did not further specify.

At this time, Corpus Christi PD have not reported any charges. They say the crash remains under investigation.
