Commentary
The time immediately following a fatal accident is always tough for those affected. One of the reasons for this is because preliminary reports are often unsatisfactory in terms of reporting the full story of what occurred in an accident. Police reports often report only the basic facts of what occurred in an accident, and they rarely go further in depth as time goes on. This can leave victims and their families lacking many crucial details regarding what happened in the accident, which can serve to make a tough time even tougher when trying to move forward.
I have always advocated the use of 3rd Party Investigators whenever an accident occurs. The main reason for this is because they're simply more thorough than a typical police investigation. 3rd Party Investigators are professional with years of expertise who know all of the possible factors that can cause a car accident. Even factors which aren't all that common--brake failure, defective products, etc.--are thoroughly investigated before being ruled out.
This is important for two reasons. The first is that in the event that victims and their families have a claim, conducting an independent investigation is necessary for uncovering and collecting necessary evidence to present to insurance companies and ensure compensation is fair. The second, and more important reason, is that an independent investigation guarantees that the full story--whatever it may be--is brought to light. Maybe investigations uncover new details, correct mistaken information, or simply confirm original police reports. Whatever the case, no one can properly move forward after an accident until they have all of the facts at hand. For this reason, 3rd Party Investigators are an incredibly useful resource after any kind of accident.
