Teen Dies in Independence Co., AR, Single-Car Accident on US 167

Independence County, AR -- January 18, 2017, a teenager was killed following an accident where her car crashed on US Highway 167.

According to the Arkansas State Police troopers, the incident occurred near the intersection of US 167 and Weaver Chapel Road around 9:15 p.m.

Preliminary investigations have indicated that a 16-year-old girl was driving southbound on the highway in a Jeep. As she traveled, her vehicle somehow lost control, veering off the roadway. Loose gravel caused the vehicle to skid sideways, eventually overturning several times before coming to a halt.

The girl suffered critical injuries in the accident and was rushed over to White River Medical Center for treatment. She later died there.

At this time, authorities have yet to determine what factors contributed to the accident. They say the crash remains under investigation.
