Lacy Matthews Killed in Accident in Rockford, IL

Rockford, IL -- A single-vehicle collision took the life of 16-year-old Lacy Matthews on U.S. 20 Saturday, January 14, 2017 in the area of Rockford, IL.

Ms. Matthews was traveling along U.S. 20 about 10:20 p.m. when the incident took place.

It appears the vehicle veered off the roadway, colliding with a tree. The cause of the incident is unclear, but police say they don't believe an animal or car were responsible for the vehicle losing control. Ms. Matthews was killed at the scene of the incident.

The official investigation is currently underway and authorities hope to learn more as it concludes.
