Devonte Brooks Killed in Bridgeton, NJ, Police Chase Accident

Bridgeton, NJ -- January 13, 2017, Devonte Brooks died as the result of an accident in which his vehicle crashed, allegedly while fleeing police.

Bridgeton Police investigators released details concerning the fatal accident which occurred around 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Route 49 and West Avenue South.

According to reports, a New Jersey State Trooper attempted to pull over a Lincoln Continental Towncar which matched the description of a vehicle that was involved in an earlier accident with a Bridgeton PD cruiser. In doing so, the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Brooks, fled the scene.

A short while later, the vehicle lost control at the intersection, running off-road and crashing into a concrete wall.

Brooks was critically injured in the accident, and rescue teams had to extract him from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not release any additional details regarding the accident. Their investigations are ongoing.
