Amelia Whitlock Dies in Accidental Drowning in Turtle Cove/Jasper County, GA

Jasper County, GA -- A drowning incident claimed the life of 9-year-old Amelia Whitlock in the area of Jasper County, GA Sunday, January 14, 2017.

It is claimed the young girl was on a fishing trip with her father when the two were thrown from their water craft. The father, Charles Whitlock, 31, successfully swam ashore. But, the young girl disappeared in the water. Following an extensive search by rescue units, the girl's body was discovered, immersed in ten feet of water.

The exact cause of the deadly incident is unclear.

Officials are examining the details of the drowning in the hopes of determining what took place.

The report provided no further information at the time of its release.
