Michael Phelps Killed, Two Hurt in Alleged DUI Accident in Hillsboro, MO

Hillsboro, MO -- A suspected alcohol related ATV crash claimed the life of 28-year-old Michael Phelps and left two injured in the area of Hillsboro, MO Sunday, January 15, 2017.

Sources say the three were riding a four-wheel ATV along a road in Jefferson County when the incident happened. At some point along the route, the vehicle overturned, killing Mr. Phelps and hospitalizing the two other occupants. At the time of the report, authorities believed the vehicle went off the roadway after an over-correction. It then skidded across the pavement, finally overturning.

Mr. Phelps, 28, was killed at the scene of the incident.

The driver of the vehicle and a second passenger were left with undisclosed injuries.

The cause of the incident had yet to be determined, but officials believe alcohol was a factor.

The driver of the vehicle has since been charged in the deadly incident.
