Child Injured in Ward, AR, in Accident at Markham Bus Stop

Ward, AR -- January 17, 2017, a young boy was injured as the result of an accident in which he was struck by a car at a bus stop on Markham Street.

Emergency services were called to the accident scene in the morning hours of Tuesday while it was still dark out.

According to preliminary investigations, a vehicle was traveling down Markham Street toward the bus stop. The driver told police investigators that an animal entered the roadway in front of the vehicle, so the driver took evasive actions. This cause the vehicle to run off the roadway where it struck a 6-year-old boy waiting for a school bus.

The driver reportedly called emergency services and waited with the child for them to arrive. They transported the child to a hospital in Little Rock, where it's said he is in stable condition.

At this time, authorities have not reported any charges or citations being issued. Their investigations are ongoing.
