Mechanic Injured in Buna, TX, Work Accident on FM 253

Buna, TX -- January 16, 2017, a worker was injured on FM 253 as the result of an accident where a pressure valve caused a severe injury to his neck.

Newton County rescue teams were called to the scene of the accident just before 2:30 p.m. It occurred between highways 96 and 87, east of Buna.

According to preliminary investigations, a field mechanic was working to bleed out a pressure valve. As he did so, the valve suddenly released a burst of pressure, and the incident inflicted a serious wound to the man's throat.

Emergency crews rushed to the accident scene and were able to transport the man to a nearby hospital via ambulance. His current condition is unknown.

Authorities have not released any further information regarding the accident. They say the incident remains under investigation.
