Robert Eugene Leenerts Killed in Truck Accident in Mebane, NC

Mebane, NC -- A single-vehicle incident involving a semi-truck left Robert Eugene Leenerts dead Friday, January 13, 2017 in the area of Mebane, NC.

Sources say the victim was in the area of 7320 Oakwood Street Extension about 6:29 a.m. when the incident happened. Officials claim Mr. Leenerts stepped out of the tractor-trailer to inspect front-end damage to the vehicle. The cause of the incident is unclear, but police say the truck started to roll, leaving the man unable to escape its path. Mr. Leenerts was killed at the scene of the incident.

Authorities are currently conducting the investigation into the incident and hope to determine a cause as it concludes.
