Joseph P. Riley Killed in Accident in Polk County, FL

Polk County, FL -- A pedestrian vs. vehicle collision claimed the life of Joseph P. Riley on Interstate 4 in Polk County, FL Sunday, January 8, 2017.

Investigators at the scene claim Mr. Riley's Ford Focus was initially involved in a two-vehicle collision. Mr. Riley, 74, reportedly exited his vehicle and was standing in the left inside lane when he was struck by a passing BMW. The report says the driver of the BMW, 57-year-old Peter A. Moran, was attempting to avoid debris, then made an evasive maneuver to avoid the disabled vehicle, striking Mr. Riley. The deceased victim was allegedly left on the hood of the car for some distance before falling off and into the median.

Officials are currently investigating the incident and hope to learn more as it concludes.

The preliminary press release provided no further information at the time of its release.
