One Injured in Petersburg, VA, School Bus Accident on Ferndale

Petersburg, VA -- January 12, 2017, at least one person was injured following an accident where a school bus overturned off Ferndale Road.

Dinwiddie County officials responded to the accident scene in the morning hours of Thursday. Reports indicate that the accident occurred near the intersection of Ferndale Road and Crowder Road.

Authorities indicate that a bus carrying roughly 30 students was traveling down Ferndale when it suddenly lost control. The school bus veered off the right side of the road where it struck a steep embankment and flipped onto its side.

Emergency services were called out to the scene to render aid. Only one student complained of injury following the accident, but all were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The bus driver was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment as well.

It's still unclear what caused the bus to lose control. Investigations are ongoing.
