5 Injured in Sharon Springs, KS, Oil Rig Explosion Accident
Sharon Springs, KS -- January 9, 2017, five workers sustained injuries following an explosion accident at a Murfin Drilling Company oil rig.
According to officials, the accident occurred in the morning hours at the rig south of Sharon Springs.
Initial reports indicate that crewmen were working on exchanging out a section of piping. As they did so, there was a gas leak. This resulted in a sudden explosion.
As a result of the explosion, five workers were injured, two of which were said to be in critical condition. The two critically injured were rushed to a hospital in Denver for intensive care. The other three were taken to local hospitals.
At this time, it's not entirely clear what sparked the explosion. Authorities are currently investigating the accident.
