Woman Injured in Smith County, TX, Power Line Accident on CR 1131

Smith County, TX -- January 11, 2017, a woman was severely injured following an accident off of County Road 1131 where she touched a downed power line.

According to Smith County authorities, the incident occurred in a field off of County Road 1131. A fire had broken out due to a transformer fire.

The woman, said to be 86 years old, was in the field attempting to put out a grass fire. In doing so, she inadvertently stepped on a downed power line. As a result, she was shocked and suffered severe burns to a significant portion of her body.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported the woman to a nearby hospital in critical condition. It's unclear if her injuries were considered life-threatening.

Authorities did not release any additional information concerning the accident.
