Woman Injured in Fort Smith, AR, Head-on Accident on US 271

Fort Smith, AR -- January 11, 2017, a woman was injured following an accident in which two vehicles crashed head-on along US Highway 271.

According to reports released by the Fort Smith Police Department, the collision occurred around 4:00 p.m. just north of the I-540 intersection.

Preliminary reports indicate that the woman was a passenger in a Ford Mustang that was traveling down the highway. In the opposite direction, a white Volkswagen car was approaching. Somehow, the two cars crossed paths with one another, and a head-on collision occurred.

Following the wreck, the woman suffered unspecified injuries, and EMS took her to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Volkswagen indicated she was injured, but did not go to the hospital immediately following the crash.

Authorities did not say what caused the accident, and no charges or citations were reported. The crash remains under investigation.
