Jesse Copeland Killed in Smith County, TX, Hit-and-run Accident

Smith County, TX -- January 7, 2017, Jesse Copeland was killed following an accident in which he was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.

22-year-old Copeland was walking along TX-155 at around 9:00 p.m., about 6 miles south of Tyler.

According to police investigators, Copeland was attempting to cross highway lanes when a southbound vehicle struck him in the roadway. Copeland suffered critical injuries as a result, and the vehicle fled the scene.

EMS could not get to Copeland soon enough, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Smith County Sheriff's Deputies have not released any information in regards to the suspect vehicle. It is unclear what evidence police are currently working with.
