Michael Chavez Killed, One Injured in Accident in Counselor, NM Accident

Counselor, NM -- Police have identified the man killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a semi as 47-year-old Michael Chavez. An unidentified passenger in the pickup was left with undisclosed injuries.

The incident occurred on Highway in the area of Counselor, NM, according to reports.

Sources say the pickup containing the two victims was northbound on Highway 550 when the incident took place. It appears the vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer, ejecting both occupants of the pickup. Mr. Chavez was killed at the scene of the incident. The unidentified passenger was taken to a local hospital and was last listed in critical condition. The driver of the truck was reportedly unhurt in the collision.

The cause of the deadly incident had yet to be determined.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
