Two Men Killed in Accident on the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa, CA

Costa Mesa, CA -- Police officials have yet to identify two victims killed in a two-vehicle collision on the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa, CA Sunday, January 8, 2017.

The report claims the head-on crash occurred about 4 a.m.

It appears a Mustang was traveling southbound against the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a second vehicle. The second vehicle, a black Expedition, subsequently exploded in flames. Both drivers, who have yet to be identified, were killed at the scene of the incident.

The official investigation is ongoing and may reveal more details as it concludes.

Due to the fact that the incident was a wrong-way crash, police are investigating the possibility the incident was alcohol related.

The preliminary media report provided no further information at the time of its release.
