1 Killed in Garrett, TX, Multi-Vehicle Head-on Accident on I-45

Garrett, TX -- January 4, 2017, one person sustained fatal injuries in an accident where multiple vehicles crashed on I-45, two head-on.

Investigators from the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the accident scene around 2:00 p.m. They say it took place along I-45 near FM 879.

According to preliminary reports, two vehicles--makes and models not specified--were driving near each other in southbound traffic lanes of the interstate. For reasons that are unclear, the two vehicles crossed paths and made contact with each other.

This collision caused both vehicles to swerve onto the median, where one of them overturned. The other vehicle continue over the median into northbound traffic. This vehicle was hit head-on by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver that was hit by the oncoming vehicle suffered critical injuries from which he died at the scene of the crash. Reports did not specify the conditions of the other drivers involved.

At this time, authorities have not said what caused the accident to occur. Additional details are pending further investigation.
