7-year-old Injured in Izard Co, AR, Pedestrian Accident on US 69

Izard County, AR -- January 5, 2017, a 7-year-old boy was injured following an accident in which he was hit by a car while crossing US 69.

Izard County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the accident scene at around 7:00 a.m. just south of Mount Pleasant.

At the time of the accident, the boy was walking in order to get on a school bus on the side of the highway. As he crossed US 69, a car did not see the boy in time and struck him in the roadway. The bus was stopped on the northbound side of the highway, and the boy was hit in the southbound lane.

The child had serious injuries, and emergency services rushed to the scene. They transported the boy to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock via helicopter. His exact condition was not specified.

It's unclear whether or not the the bus's emergency signals were on at the time of the accident. Authorities did not say if any charges or citations were given following the accident.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
