Delaney O’Connell Killed in Ski Accident in Thompsonville, MI

Thompsonville, MI -- A 10-year-old resident of La Grange, Illinois was killed in a skiing incident in Benzie County, MI Monday, January 2, 2017. Officials have identified the victim as Delaney O'Connell.

The report claims the girl was a part of a group ski lesson when the incident occurred. Young O'Connell was skiing the intermediate trail at Crystal Mountain resort when she struck a tree, according to the report. Delaney O'Connell was taken to a local hospital, but succumbed to her injuries a day later. Officials have described her cause of death as a "closed head injury." The report claims the young victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Authorities are currently conducting the investigation and hope to learn more as it concludes.
