Zaylee Schlecht Killed in Accident in Otis, OR

Otis, OR -- 8-year-old Zaylee Schlecht was killed in an incident involving a fallen tree Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in Otis, OR.

The young girl was reportedly asleep on the couch when a falling tree crashed into her house. The tree allegedly landed on the girl as she slept, crushing her. The girl's mother and two of her siblings were able to escape the incident. Arriving emergency crews went to work with chainsaws in an attempt to free the girl from beneath the tree. The girl, however, was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Authorities are currently conducting the official investigation in the hopes of determining the cause.

Multiple witnesses claim they believe strong gusts of wind may have played a role.

The report provided no further information at the time of its release.
