1 Killed, 1 Injured in Truck Accident on Cortez Blvd. in Hernando County, FL

Hernando County, FL — January 23, 2024, a man was killed and another was injured in a head-on truck accident sometime after 8:30 p.m. along Cortez Boulevard.

According to authorities, a 29-year-old man had stolen a Chevy HHR after his vehicle had been involved in a crash on Cortez Boulevard at the Kettering Road intersection. The Chevy was allegedly westbound on Cortez when it was involved in a second accident.

Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the stolen Chevy veered left over the center lane and collided head-on with an eastbound 18-wheeler. The 29-year-old was allegedly ejected from the Chevy during the crash; he incurred fatal injuries as a result and was declared deceased at the scene. The 45-year-old man who had been behind the wheel of the 18-wheeler sustained reportedly minor injuries.
