Child Killed, Helen Edwards, Jerry Miller Injured in Amazon Vehicle Accident in Athens, GA

Athens, GA — January 11, 2024, a child was killed and Helen Edwards and Jerry Miller were injured in an Amazon vehicle accident at 5:53 p.m. on Danielsville Road.

Authorities with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department gave a preliminary statement to the public on the accident. They say it occurred in the area of the Danielsville Road and Mission Drive intersection.

According to officials, 46-year-old Jerry Miller and 41-year-old Helen Edwards (who was pregnant at the time) were in a Ford Ranger said to be going northbound on Danielsville Road. An Amazon delivery vehicle was headed southbound. Details from ACCPD say that the Amazon vehicle turned "into the path of" Miller and Edwards' vehicle, and a collision occurred.

Due to the collision, Edwards was taken to a hospital in serious condition where her baby had to be delivered. It appears the child died on January 13. Miller was said to have minor injuries. While no charges or citations are confirmed right now, the ACCPD statement says the crash is "being worked as a homicide by vehicle." Investigations are ongoing.
