Yancy Sowers Killed in Semi-Truck Accident in Thomas County, KS

Thomas County, KS — January 3, 2023, Yancy Sowers was killed following a semi-truck accident at around 2:00 p.m. along U.S. Highway 83.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the incident happened at the intersection of the Interstate 70 off-ramp and U.S. 83 north of Oakley.

It appears that 45-year-old Yancy Sowers was in a vehicle going northbound on U.S. 83. At the I-70 interchange, police say that a semi-truck with a cattle trailer failed to yield coming off of the interstate. As a result, Sowers's vehicle crashed with the semi-trailer.

Sowers sustained fatal injuries due to the collision. Reports do not mention any other injuries. Right now, it's unclear if authorities plan to file charges or citations. No further information about the accident can be confirmed at this time.
